[Règlement] La CEV testera une nouvelle règle pour le Golden Set !

La CEV (Confédération Européenne de Volley-ball) a décidé de tester une nouvelle règle concernant le Golden Set.

Pour rappel, le golden set est un set supplémentaire qui est disputé pour déterminer le vainqueur d’une rencontre jouée en « aller-retour » et où chaque équipe aurait remporté une confrontation. La victoire finale était attribuée au vainqueur de ce Golden Set disputé en 15 points gagnants.

La fédération européenne a déjà testé 2 règles différentes pour déterminer quand il faut disputer un Golden Set.

1) Le Golden set n’est joué que lorsque les deux équipes ont partagé au total le même nombre de sets (3:3, 4:4 ou 5:5). Cette formule comporte le désavantage que dans le cas d’une victoire 3-0 au match aller par une équipe, dès que cette même équipe remporte un set dans la seconde confrontation la rencontre n’a plus aucun intérêt.

2) Le Golden set est joué dès que les 2 équipes remportent chacune une victoire, et ce indépendamment du nombre de set remportés. Cette 2e formule avantage grandement l’équipe qui joue le match retour à domicile. Ainsi on a déjà vu certaines équipes se déplacer en match aller avec le noyau B pour tout miser sur le match retour (+ Golden Set) à domicile.

La nouvelle formule qui sera appliquéé pour les prochaines compétitions sous la houlette de la CEV est la suivante :

Pour chaque rencontre, chaque équipe se verra attribuer un nombre de points comme pour des matches de championnat  : 3 points pour une victoire 3-1 ou 3-0, 2 points pour une victoire 3-2, 1 point pour une défaite 2-3. Le Golden Set sera joué en cas d’égalité aux points (3:3) après les deux rencontres.

Cette formule est évidemment à mi chemin entre les deux précédentes et en présente donc les désavantages combinés. Mais ces désavantages semblent tout de même atténués.

There was a rule in which golden set was played only when the total result of both games was equal – 3:3, 4:4, 5:5. The weakness of this option was that the last sets in the second leg were often pointless. For example, if one team won the first match 3-0, winning the first set in the second leg already gave him the pass to the next round and then the match became uninteresting for spectators.

The other rule, which was valid until the end of last season, was also far from perfect. In case of exchanged wins in two games a golden set was played regardless of the number of earned sets. This very strongly suppressed the meaning of the first leg and seriously puts in favour the host of the second leg. There were cases where some team sent seven or eight substitutes or a second squad for the first leg, putting everything for victory in the second leg and the golden game at home.

According to the new regulation, both teams will earn points like in the League standings. So, for 3-0 or 3-1 win – three points will be awarded, for a 3-2 win – two points and for 3-2 loss – one point. Golden set will be played only when the two teams finish with equal points – three after two matches. If a team won the first match 3-0 or 3-1, in the second leg they would need two sets won to qualify without playing a golden set.

The new rule will obviously have weaknesses of both previous rules, but the idea of their negative impact can be minimized. Only its forthcoming in practice will show whether it will give the desired effect and remain for a long time in the Regulation of the European competitions.
